For its critics in the Republican party, Obamacare is the gift that keeps on giving — if only the GOP had a clue. The ill-fated government shutdown that brought favorability ratings for congressional Republicans to record lows and may have cost Ken Cuccinelli the governor’s race in Virginia seems indicative of a strategy that is void of anything except demonizing Barack Obama.
The Affordable Care Act was always going to collapse under its own liberal weight, so why try to save the Democrats from themselves by repealing the ACA’s most onerous provisions? In fact, the GOP should have never let any of the so-called waivers to the law stand right from the start. Continue reading
Great to back in Colorado, my old stomping grounds, on 560AM KLZ, The Source, starting November 19th at 7PM. Because Colorado is at the forefront of an epic battle for restraining the leviathan, it’s exciting to be back in the Centennial State. Our thanks to all in the Rocky Mountain west who’ve been pushing hard for our return. Now it’s time to say thanks so if you’re on the front range, give our friends at KLZ a call @ 303-481-1800 and say ‘well done.’
One troubling aspect of our near-war with Syria is the apparent zeal both political parties have for military action abroad. In fact, no sooner had we dodged the proverbial bullet in Damascus then America’s bipartisan saber-rattlers recalibrated their sites on the big prize, Tehran.
Historically speaking, it’s really no surprise that Wilsonian internationalists like John Kerry gravitate toward government intervention. After all, that’s exactly what liberals do at home. What’s harder to explain is why conservative policy has become so hawkish given Republican Party tradition throughout the 20th century. Continue reading
We had a great time speaking at Young America’s Foundation Fall Conference luncheon and doing our show at the Reagan Ranch Center in Santa Barbara that afternoon. High school attendees were remarkably engaged & the Ranch itself remarkably Reagan–unassuming, simple and elegant. Modesty and the importance of someplace to call your own. A fine testament to the 40th President.
You’d be hard pressed to find a more humble United States Senator than Rod Grams, who passed away this week at 65. Former Senator Don Nickles of Oklahoma once told me that Rod was the ‘gold standard’ as well as the nicest man he met in the Senate. I had the great pleasure of working with Rod throughout his Senate tenure on fighting encroaching government and reforming Social Security with a series of Town Hall meetings. And the sad irony is that if Sen. Grams proposals for Social Security had been enacted while he was in the Senate the program would be solvent (even without depleting a trust fund) and the public fisc in much better shape. But more important than Rod’s principled conservatism were his principles as a man. A genuine one of a kind who will be sorely missed. His family remains in our thoughts and prayers.
When Daniel Patrick Moynihan zeroed in on the disintegration of the nuclear family as the root cause of African-American poverty and crime in the mid-1960s, the out-of-wedlock birth rate for black Americans was 25 percent.
Today, after a civil-rights revolution (culminating in the election of the nation’s first African-American president) and $15 trillion spent on a feckless war on poverty (the official poverty rate hasn’t budged), more than 70 percent of black babies are born out of wedlock.
Consequently, unemployment and poverty remain far higher for blacks than for the rest of Americans. More disturbing, however, is the elephant in the living room that no one in the public eye seems interesting in addressing — appalling levels of crime committed by young African-American males.
